The Governance, Security Human Rights and Gender Unit of EuropeAid is organising a Global Workshop for European Union Delegations from the 18 – 21 October 2010 on fighting corruption.

The four day seminar, which will take place in Brussels, will focus on providing specific training to EU Delegations and European Commission staff based at EuropeAid headquarters.

Besides EuropeAid, the expertise of various departments of the Commission will be represented, including: Home Affairs; Development; External Relations and Anti Fraud Office.

A number of external partners will also be in attendance, including the World Bank, the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crimes as well as a number of key researchers and practitioners. Key civil society actors will bring their perspective on the role that Non-State Actors can play in the fight against corruption.

Together these experts will offer a broad view and analysis of anti-corruption strategies.

The fight against corruption is a key element contributing to better democratic governance and to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

Corruption is a complex issue with far reaching consequences for public institutions and citizens alike.

As corruption is a failure of the broader system of governance, it cannot be addressed in isolation, but rather as part of the overall support to democratic governance reform processes.

The EC has provided significant support to programmes in the field of anticorruption. This seminar seeks to build on that experience and work towards placing anti-corruption issues into the heart of the EC’s development assistance programming and implementation. A specific emphasis will be given to supporting ‘checks and balances’ institutions with a specific focus on strengthening Non-State Actors’ capacities and supporting Anti-Corruption Agencies.

If you’re an EC or EU delegation staff member and you’d like to sign up to this event, you can do so through sislog:
