Abu Dhabi Ascent - high level meeting in support of Climate Summit 2014 (4-5 May)
Discussion details

Beginning Sunday 4 May, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) and its partners will be participating in a variety of ways in this important global conference in Abu Dhabi, which will be laying the groundwork for the UN Secretary-General's Climate Summit in September. Short-lived climate pollutants will be featured as a topic of major interest both in Abu Dhabi and at the Summit.
Achim Steiner, Executive Director of UNEP, Bahijjahtu Abubakar, Co-chair of CCAC, Nigeria, and Minister Gregory Barker, United Kingdom, will help open the conference with high-level presentations on Energy and Short-Lived Climate Pollutants.
Breakout Sessions on Climate Action will then focus on specific initiatives in key action areas, where stakeholders from government, private sector, finance and civil society will explore potential opportunities to engage in these initiatives. The CCAC will participate in a number of ways in these sessions, including having two dedicated ones on SLCPs. See "Abu Dhabi Ascent: Helping to Achieve the 2C Target by Accelerating Action on Short-Lived Climate Pollutants" for more information on the CCAC and its focus at Abu Dhabi.

The Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short Lived Climate Pollutants is a partnership of governments, intergovernmental organizations, the private sector, the environmental community, and other members of civil society. The Coalition is government-led but is highly cooperative and voluntary. Short-lived climate pollutants are agents that have a relatively short lifetime in the atmosphere—a few days to a few decades—but also a warming influence on climate as well as, in many cases, detrimental impacts on human health, agriculture and ecosystems.
