The Academy and his adhesion to the Forest Governance
After finished the Seminar - workshop: Situation and Perspectives of the Contribution and Linking Academy Shares Improving Forest Governance in Colombia, held in the city of Ibague between 13, 14 and 15 August, the project positioning forest governance in Colombia, funded by the European Union, made a compilation of the most important findings obtained in the course of the event.
The meeting was attended by the following academic centers that offer programs of Forestry, Technology and Technical Forestry: Nacional University in Medellín, University of Tolima, University District, University of Cauca, Industrial university of Santander, Nariño University, National Open and Distance University (UNAD), National Integrated College (CINOC), Technological Institute of Putumayo. Additionally, work on a document report containing all the aspects developed during the activity. Conclusions: 1) was identified as a priority the review and adjustment of the curricula of academic institutions that offer programs of Forestry and Technical Engineering and Technology Forestry, allowing inclusion, strengthening and / or supplementing and updating issues associated with forest governance in order to achieve the comprehensive training of students in this field through appropriation, skills development and analytical skills to develop strategies towards sustainable resource management, taking into account the different perspectives positions and actors involved in the management of forests. 2) Programs of Forestry, and Technology Engineering and Technical Forestry must analyze inclusion in the Forest Governance theme through various forms, either through a specific subject, or by developing a Chair special seminar, diploma, etc., with each institution to determine the mechanism that best fits your needs and particularities. 3) It is the duty of the academy teach and participate in the issue of forest governance, as it is responsible for the training of professionals who will be responsible for the technical guidance of the management and use of forest 4) It must design strategies, seeking to create workspaces for students majoring in forestry (through internships), in companies or institutions to develop Forest Governance actions. 5) The academy from its teaching, research and extension, subject to potentiate the Forest Governance as a mechanism of integration of actors, which promotes proper management of resources and contributes to sustainable development. 6) It is necessary to find mechanisms to technical support and benefit communities inhabiting the forest, tending by interventions from the universities, which as part of their academic work provide quantitative and qualitative data to facilitate and support decision making. 7) Seek and promote rapprochement and coordination between academia and the Regional Autonomous Corporations, in order to contribute to the formulation and implementation of General Forest Management Plans (PGOF), through monitoring strategies, monitoring assessment and management, seeking to incorporate political, technical, social and economic aspects. 8) it is necessary to look for the accompaniment and approximation of the academy to communities and small and medium forest producers, in order to promote and initiate forest certification, because it is a mechanism that encourages healthy practices of forest exploitation aimed at sustainable the resource. 9) It is necessary to start by working together, standardizing processes technical aspects, such as management plans, cubage, etc.. which allow homogenization methods that facilitate control activities and avoid confusion. 10) It is essential to involve universities in the areas of discussion on forest policies and standards and seek their technical and scientific impact in the respective decisions. 11) It is necessary to expand, justify and develop knowledge networks and partnership between universities offering careers relate to the forest, to achieve cohesion of academic actors, seeking synchrony, share knowledge and develop strategies that benefit the sustainable forest management. 12) Some of the strategies that can be developed by the academy include: 1) structuring refresher courses related to forest management, 2) the transformation and mobilization for officials and technical assistants as well as providing technical assistance and training to small and medium producers o, involving citizen participation through existing mechanisms, from the social point of view. 13) There must be institutional support from the state, fulfilling his duties to encourage, control and regulation, in order to achieve the articulation of communities, state agencies, private companies, ONG, and any private entity or public to participate in the production chain from the forest.
