“I think that the Ebola virus is something that has touched a nerve in the collective consciousness about everybody’s own deep seated individual fears about sickness and about infection and that has led to the reactions that we’ve seen,” said Tom Ashwanden, the Head of Governance & Institutional Support at the European Union Delegation to Sierra Leone.

Currently evacuated to Brussels, Mr Ashwanden spoke to capacity4dev.eu about the work that the Delegation is doing in Sierra Leone, the effect of stigmatisation on affected countries and the lessons that we can already take from this crisis.

The delegation is also advising project partners on how to adapt their work in the face of the current crisis, which has brought many projects to a halt. One of the NGOs working with the EU in Sierra Leone was Concern Worldwide. Read this Voices & Views to find out more about how they have responded to the current crisis.
