Adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030
Discussion details
After several days of negotiations at the UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction which took place earlier this week in Sendai, Japan, an agreement was reached for the adoption of a new global framework that will guide disaster risk reduction policy and programming for the next 15 years - the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
Represented in Sendai by Christos Stylianides - Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, and Kristalina Georgieva - Vice-President of the EC in charge of Budget and Human Resources and former Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid, and Crisis Response, the EU has long taken a leadership role in building a strong, focused and forward-looking successor of the Hyogo Framework for Action - a 10-year plan to make the world safer from natural hazards, which is coming to an end this year.
