Disability Rights Fund Promotes Donor’s Guide to Inclusion

New York City, NY – On the occasion of the fifth conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Disability Rights Fund (DRF) is promoting its guide, “Beyond Charity: A Donor’s Guide to Inclusion - Disabilty funding in the era of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.” DRF – a groundbreaking collaborative to support the human rights of persons with disabilities around the world – commissioned the guide to encourage donor learning about the rights of persons with disabilities.

"The Fifth Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities provides an opportune venue to share good practices in funding and addressing disability from a human rights perspective,” said Executive Director, Diana Samarasan, “We hope that the guide promotes dialogue between Disabled Persons Organizations, donors, and otherdevelopment agencies on how to ensure inclusive and accessible international cooperation.”

This informative guide introduces the Convention and its implications for donors and development practitioners. It captures and shares the experience of select donors and development agencies that are beginning to integrate the principles of the CRPD into their work. It also provides practical actions donors can take that will improve the way funding is promoted and managed so it becomes increasingly inclusive.

Donors to the DRF include AusAID, the American Jewish World Service, the Leir Foundation, the Open Society Foundations, The Sigrid Rausing Trust, and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID).
