On February the 2nd, 2011, CTA organised a Briefing on the “ Geopolitics of Food” in cooperation with the European Commission (DG DEVCO), Concord, the ACP Secretariat and various media. 

This Briefing focused on  the geopolitics of Food, in the context  of the challenges of the global food system and ACP countries. The food,  energy and financial crises together with climate change and global agricultural and trade policies all have an impact on global food production. Lessons learned and implications for ACP countries were discussed In particular the focus was on policy options and changes necessary to promote food security and encourage resilient food systems which generate growth in the most vulnerable countries while protecting and empowering small-scale farmers.

On the Brussels briefings website (brusselsbriefings.net) you will find video documentation of all the speeches given at the conference, as well as the presentations’ PowerPoint, the event programme, photos, highlights, and the reader. The reader describes the crisis in the global food system, rising food commodity prices and price volatility, then looks at the factors affecting world food supply today and concludes with way forward and policy challenges.
