BTC publishes thematic magazine ‘Impact Education’
Discussion details
Education is one of the four intervention sectors of the Belgian governmental cooperation, beside health care, agriculture and basic infrastructure. The third issue of Impact is completely devoted to this important sector, with specific attention for the niches where the Belgian Development Cooperation is making a difference.
In Burundi, primary education is significantly reformed with the support of Belgium. The roles of teachers and pupils are adapted and in line with the needs of contemporary education.
In Uganda, the focus is on teacher training; no mean feat since it implies a genuine change of behaviour.
In Palestine, BTC mainly focuses on technical and vocational education and aims to bridge the gap between education and the job market.
Belgium is a relatively small donor, yet it plays an important role on the international scene. Belgium manages a 50 million dollar international education fund in Burundi.
And thanks to Belgium's assistance, Congo's Ministry of Education has strengthened its credibility which allowed it to attract support from other donors.
Education is key for developing a country, but that is not the only reason why eduction deserves more attention from the Belgian Development Cooperation than it has received so far.
