Discussion details

Created 05 January 2012

Just before the end of the year, this notion was touched upon in the webinar ‘Thin Film Competitiveness: Facing up to rising competition from China and C-Si’ hosted by PV Insider. The ways in which Thin Film need to conform in the coming years to maintain survival were discussed by three key industry figures: Ulrich Becker of First Solar, Chris O’Brien of Oerlikon Solar, and Paula Mints of Navigant Consulting.

The hour-long session, which included Q&A’s and live polls with over 800 participants, delivered important insights on how Thin Film can get competitive.

One area discussed is how cost improvements are driven by accelerated module conversion efficiency gains, and it is explained that there is potential for a greater shift towards thin film depending on actual cost reductions achieved by C-Si that are identified.

Listen in to the experts’ perception on how to best prepare for the inevitable rise in competition from both Crystalline Silicon and Chinese manufacturers and get their opinion about:

  • Facts and figures on the impact Chinese Manufacturers are having on the global thin film economy
  • Strategies for thin film players to fight back against C-si by scaling up operations and enhancing the manufacturing process
  • How to fight off game-changers from both competitors with inside information on new applications and technological developments
