Published on the official EC website in 2016, the story Sustainable fishing catching on in Madagascar is paired to the project overview of Technical Assistance for the Implementation of the Regional Fisheries Strategy for the Eastern, Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean (ESA-IO) region.

Despite its abundance of natural resources, Madagascar is one of the least developed countries in the world. 70 % of the 19.7 million-strong population lives below the poverty line. The fisheries agreement between the EU and Madagascar provides comprehensive cooperation in the field of fisheries governance. This allows the EU to help strengthen food security through Malagasy fisheries products. Financial support for the Malagasy fisheries sector boosts efforts to track and combat illegal fishing and is a real opportunity to improve living conditions for the inhabitants of the fishing villages.

The story can also be downloaded as a PDF here. It is also available in French, Portuguese and Spanish.
