ClimaSouth at COP22

The EU-funded ClimaSouth project is actively involved in four scheduled side - events at COP22:
1. Governing Climate Change: a Centre of Excellence in Egypt: November 14th (16.30-18.00). Panellists will present and discuss the future establishment of a Center of Excellence for Climate Change in Egypt, highlighting its proposed mandate and governance system, and the anticipated implementation modalities and sustainability. The CECC aims to coordinate climate action, the sharing of relevant scientific information, while providing policy advice to decision makers in Egypt.
2. The European Union in action: implementing the Paris Agreement in the Southern Mediterranean: November 15th (14.30-16.00). EU-funded programmes in the field of climate change will showcase their work and achievements to date. The event will aim at raising awareness about the way the EU is helping to face some of the key climate related challenges in the Mediterranean region.
3. Strengthening access to climate finance: experiences from the Southern Mediterranean region: November 15th (19.00-20.30). Accessing flows of climate finance remains a challenge in the South Mediterranean region. The side event will examine the main barriers hampering small and medium enterprises in accessing climate finance. The discussion will also benefit from the perspectives of international donors such as the Green Climate Fund and the European Investment Bank, showcasing their strategies, tools and mechanisms for the region.
4. Triangular climate action: harmonised efforts of businesses, NGOs and governments: November 17th (18:30 to 20:00). The session aims to provide a novel perspective on cross-sector collaboration between Lebanese businesses, Government and civil society through the Lebanon Climate Act which creates an unparalleled opportunity to support business innovation, and get closer to achieve an emerging low carbon, climate resilient, economy.
