On 13 June, the WB held a workshop on the proposed DTIS for Bangladesh where they also shared their forthcoming trade strategy. The proposed approach under the trade strategy covers almost all the issues related to trade (e.g. trade competitiveness, trade facilitation and logistics, trade finance, trade cooperation and trade data & systems). Nevertheless, the degree of importance given to particular sector(s)/sub-sector(s) would be significant in the respective country context. The WB Dhaka Office is currently working on the Bangladesh chapter and, it is learnt that they intend to finalise it by the end of this year.

Another important issue would be the DTIS in Bangladesh. It appeared at that discussion that most of the participants did not fully agree to the nine areas proposed by the WB (although the minute of the meeting does not capture this view). At the other discussions held different times also indicated that the WB still wants to proceed with their nine identified sectors, whereas, the Ministry of Commerce and EUD are on the same page in recognising the fact that a DTIS should be more than that.
