To help you better understand EU’s green initiatives, units F1, F2, F3 and F4 have prepared webinars on integrated landscape management, green & sustainable cities, Green Deal policy developments, greening budgeting & public finance management, as well as on how to use Rio markers.
This series, running over November and December, will help you better understand and get acquainted with:
- the Green Deal’s main priority areas, focusing on “greening”/mainstreaming and sustainable finance – particularly focusing on the EU priority on green financing; the Green Recovery; and the opportunities for programming for 2021-2027;
- the entry points for integrated landscape approaches to land management;
- the fundamental role of cities to achieve the Green Deal goals;
- the basics of Rio markers, their purpose and the possible Rio marker scores.
You may also learn something you could use in your private life to help achieving these goals.
The programme:
1. Integrated Landscape management can make a difference to a green and just transition
This module will present how landscape approaches aim at allocating and managing land to achieve economic and social development objectives while preserving ecosystems and the essential services they provide in areas where agriculture and other productive land uses compete with environmental, climate and biodiversity goals.

2. Green & Sustainable Cities
The 2-hour session will focus on the fundamental roles of cities to achieve the Green Deal goals and present the specific challenges urban areas are facing in developing countries and how the concept of green cities can appeal to decision-makers.

3. Updates on Green Deal policy developments
The 2-hour session aims at providing the participants with an understanding of the Green Deal’s main priority areas, focusing on climate change and sustainable finance, biodiversity and forests, circular economy and pollution: through state of play, latest policy developments and implications for EU cooperation.

4. Greening Budget and Greening Public Finance Management - How can we support national partners in prioritising environment and climate change objectives?
The EU Green Deal puts sustainable finance at the heart of the financial system, encourages public authorities to do green budgeting and procurement. But what does it mean in practice? What can we do to achieve it? This is what you will find out in a webinar on 1 December: what it is about and what can be done.

5. Tracking climate and biodiversity funding – how to use Rio markers?
Understanding what are the Rio markers and reflecting upon challenges and opportunities to maximise contributions to the biodiversity and climate targets requires the participation of all colleagues. This 2-hour training explains the methodological guidance and support available for the scoring of Rio markers.
