Just over one year after I took up duty in DG DEVCO, it is time to share some reflections and wishes with you before the Christmas holidays. And this is even more important in the wake of the appointment of the new Commission, and in particular our Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Mr Neven Mimica.

2014 has been a very intense year for all of us. I continue to be very impressed by the highly professional and efficient attitude of colleagues in Headquarters and in Delegations, which to me remains the most important asset of DEVCO. I had the chance to meet all Units in Headquarters, and also visited a number of Delegations which provided a unique opportunity to meet colleagues there and see how our programmes are operating on the ground. It is always extremely encouraging to see the quality of the staff and the dedication of colleagues to our development ideals.

I sincerely thank you for your active contribution and count on your continued daily commitment. I wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and well-deserved holidays with your family and friends.
