Eradicating polio menace in Nigeria

Thank you for your comment, Dr Castilla. I share with your views that Dr Brutha's article is very interesting and brilliant. However, it still do not fully adress the challenges in Nigeria polio eradication that is dominated with muslim parents refusing to produce their children because they believe the vaccines causes infertility. Moreso, some respected experts in the northern Nigeria, highly dominated by muslims and where the disease is highly endemic do not accept the scientific reality of the "OPV", making it difficult for health care workers in that region to eradicate the remaining pockets of polio in Nigeria. Having said that, it is easy to understand that the only gap in winning the fight against polio in Nigeria lies on whether the people accepts the vaccine or whether they stick on their believe that the vaccine is not safe for their children. Although, new development showed that GAVI - producers of the vaccine, partners with islamic development bank to save lives with vaccines by increasing access to immunisation. http://www.gavialliance.org/library/news/press-releases/2013/islamic-de…. Hopefully, this will be an influencing mechanism to finally end this menace in Nigeria.
