Discussion details
The Delegation of the European Union for the Pacific celebrated European Union – African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States (ACP) relations and intercultural dialogue through student mobility and academic co-operation. On Thursday the European Union Ambassador to Fiji and the Pacific, Andrew Jacobs hosted Fijian students and university staff. These were the students and staff members who are going to study and train in Europe under Erasmus+ scholarships. Also are Fijian Erasmus+ alumni who had already benefited from studies or training in Europe; students from the Caribbean (namely Belize, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Jamaica) who are currently studying in Fijian Universities under EU funded programmes and students from the European Union who are studying in Fijian Universities. The Erasmus+ programme is one of the most internationally known EU programme. It allows students and university staff from around the world to study and train in European Universities and for the Europeans to study in partner countries. It has a total budget of €16.4 billion (FJ$37.95bn) for the period 2014 to 2020. Out of this amount €1.7 billion (FJ$3.93bn) is dedicated to scholarships to beneficiaries from non-EU countries. The Minister of Education, Heritage and Arts Mahendra Reddy, the Vice Chancellor of Fiji National University (FNU), Professor Nigel Healey and the Vice Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific (USP), Professor Rajesh Chandra were also there.
