EU GCCA+ Liberia: Building capacity for waste management
Discussion details
The European Union funded project Cities Alliance Liberia Country Program is providing micro-finance loans to 20 Community Based Enterprises (CBE) that collect solid waste from house to house and 1 Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) that collects waste from businesses and other institutions.
Solid waste such as plastic, glass, metal and biodegradable food emit methane and other dangerous gases into the atmosphere, which leads to global warming and climate change. Since 2018, the project has been building the capacity of government institutions and local solid waste collectors to better manage solid waste in Greater Monrovia, which comprises Monrovia, Paynesville and ten surrounding townships.
