The Euro-Mediterranean Summit of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions is co-organised by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean. The event was co-financed by the European Commission. The Summit focused on key challenges affecting the countries of the region, especially those that are currently in a process of political, economic and social transition, and the role that civil society can play in meeting those challenges. Therefore, this year special emphasis had been given to:

Macroeconomic policy and the employment challenge in the north and south of the Mediterranean region,

The economic and social situation of women in the Euro-Mediterranean region,

Mobility and migration: challenges and opportunities,

Water: a scarce resource in the Mediterranean region.
