From Fiji – an appeal to action

The outcomes statement of the Pacific Resilience Meeting: from the critical role of youth to nature-based solutions

Participants coming together under the uniting mechanism of the Pacific Resilience Partnership (PRP) at the inaugural Pacific Resilience Meeting (PRM) in Suva, Fiji, released an outcomes statement with a clear appeal to action in a region that is most vulnerable to climate change.



Participants recognised the critical role of youth, the significant potential for nature-based solutions, and the contribution of indigenous knowledge, while reaffirming the need to reduce greenhouse emissions at all levels, invest in low-carbon development, and the urgency of addressing climate-driven displacement issues.  



The Pacific Resilience Meeting (PRM) was at the University of the South Pacific, Suva, Fiji  (1-3 May 2019) and brings together the Pacific Climate Change Roundtable, the Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management, the low-carbon development community of practice, the Pacific Humanitarian Partnership and the European Union Global Climate Change Alliance Plus Initiative (GCCA+). This year theme was  “Youth Futures in a Resilient Pacific”.
