Africa and Europe are strengthening their energy cooperation. In the framework of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), two major events take place in Vienna on 20-22 April 2010: The first High Level Meeting of the AEEP and the Global Forum on Sustainable Energy.

High Level Meeting (HLM)

The Republic of Austria, representing the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), extends an invitation to the first High Level Meeting of the AEEP to be held in Vienna on 20-21 April 2010. The High Level Meeting will bring together policy makers from the Commissions of EU and AU, national ministers responsible for energy and for questions regarding Africa-EU relations, representatives of the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and Power Pools (PPs) as well as of other specialized institutions and international organizations.

The first High Level Meeting of the AEEP has the following objectives:

  • to promote the Africa-EU Energy Partnership in Africa and Europe,
  • to reinforce cooperation on energy interconnections within Africa and between Africa and the EU,
  • to endorse a road map for the implementation of AEEP’s future actions as well as concrete political targets,
  • to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency in Africa,
  • to reaffirm the commitment to enhancing energy security and energy access on both continents.

The Africa-EU Energy Partnership is supported on the European side by the co-chairs Austria and Germany, represented by the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. On the African side, the African Union Commission and Mauritius – represented by the Ministry of Renewable Energy and Public Utilities – co-chair the partnership.
