The Forest Governance Positioning Project in Colombia PPGF, assisted to the 5th Technical and Legal Meeting that took place the 28th and 29th of August in the city of Ibagué – Tolima. The objective of the meeting was to continue the review of the Forest Harvesting Scheme (Decree 1791 of 1996).

Thirteen forest engineers and eight Lawyers of the Regional Autonomous Corporations that are part of the Forest Governance Positioning Project in Colombia PPGF, and the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development – MADS (for its initials in Spanish) participated in the workshop. The technical and legal aspects of the mobilization and commerce of forest products were emphasized.

In this opportunity the possibility of including in the Colombian forest regulation issues related to the definition of legal timber, the definition of products of first and second stage of processing, timber tracking, the need to include technology tools for the measurement thereof as well as the control and management of commerce centers and wood processing, was explored.

The accompaniment to Afro-Colombians and indigenous communities in the activities of forest harvesting and the differences between the one use only and, the use under law ministry, were some of the most discussed topics by the working groups.

At the end of the workshop, representatives of the Regional Autonomous Corporations agreed on the need to particularize the protocols in order to carry out the action plans in each region, taking into account important aspects such as geography, climate, among others.

The Forest Governance Positioning Project is funded by the European Union and led by CARDER, in association with Corantioquia, Corpocaldas, CRC, Codechocó, Corponariño, Corponor, CRQ, Cortolima, Corpourabá, CVC, Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Asocars and Aldea Global.
