GCCA+ in the news: Water resources trainings in The Gambia

Building institutional capacity in data management and visualisation, monitoring and predicting the weather, climate and water resources of the country are the focus of a series of trainings with the Department of Water Resources in the Gambia.
The Department of Water Resources under the Ministry of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters (MoFWR-NAMs) in collaboration with the European Union commenced with a twelve-day training workshop on data management and visualisation for its staff and other institutions. The trainings on of data management and visualisation techniques are based on Geoclim tools and were provided by the Global Climate Change Alliance Plus (GCCA+) project Climate Change Resilient Marine Zone for the Gambia.
“Hydrological and Meteorological (Hydro-Met) observation systems constitute a crucial component for data acquisition and information generation necessary for meeting critical development goals in order to prepare for severe weather events and changes in climatic norms. The Gambia has identified the improvement of its hydro-met infrastructures as a priority need to defined in the county’s national development plan. This will ultimately provide timely and reliable climate data, information services and reduced the negative impact of climate variability and change,” said permanent sectary Omar S.M. Gibba.
