The second discussion on the role of energy in the post-2015 development agenda hosted by the World We Want webpage is drawing to a close. The debate is part of the Global Thematic Consultation on Energy. The consultation is part of a global dialogue with stakeholders across all sectors of society, seeking to build a shared vision on a set of priorities and global objectives for energy to be integrated within the post-2015 development agenda and related processes.
The UN's contribution to this debate is assisted by UN-Energy, a mechanism initiated to promote coherence within the United Nations family of organizations in the energy field and to develop increased collective engagement between the United Nations and other key external stakeholders.
UNEP is a member of UN-Energy. Its work on energy aims to raises awareness of sustainable energy options, particuarly amongst developing nations, but also shows decision-makers how to use the mechanisms available: how to access carbon finance; how to set up policy frameworks; how to choose the most appropriate technology; how to assess the situation before taking the first step; and then, to take that step in the right direction.
UNEP assists governments and institutions move from the idea phase to the implementation phase, offering not only tools and resources, but also the skills needed to effectively use those tools and resources. The goal is to help partners establish their own programmes and use financial measures that bring renewable energy resources and energy efficiency to their populations.
