Sustainable Forests for the Future
With more than 23 million hectares, the Gabonese territory is 88% covered by the equatorial forest. The forest of Gabon is one of the most stable in the Congo Basin. Annual deforestation was around 0.03% between 1990 and 2010, and 0.07% between 2010 and 2018.
EU Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans and Minister of Water, Forests, the Sea and Environment of Gabon, Lee White, reaffirmed their common vision and long-term political commitment to protect, restore and ensure sustainable management of forests in Gabon.
The Forest Partnership with Gabon is the first one after the EU Commission signed the first five Forest Partneships at COP27 in November 2022.
