Greening EU development cooperation - environmental and climate change mainstreaming

How are we greening EU cooperation and development?

  1. Being aware of the linkages between environment, climate change and development.
  2. Building capacities to integrate environment and climate change into policies and investments/actions.
  3. Engaging in policy dialogue to promote environmentally sustainable and climate-smart development.
  4. Addressing environmental and climate-related challenges and opportunities in our programming documents, using tools such as Country Environmental Profiles.
  5. Identifying and formulating environmentally sustainable, climate resilient and low carbon actions; conducting strategic environmental and climate risk assessments where they can help.
  6. Integrating environment and climate-related measures in the implementation of actions and monitoring their impact, using appropriate indicators.
  7. Using evaluation results to improve the environmental and climate change performance of our projects and programmes.
  8. Communicating mainstreaming achievements and challenges and inspire others.
  9. Internalising green behaviour and practices in our daily lifestyle and work ethos.

The Environment and Climate Change Mainstreaming Facility offers remote and on-site assistance to EU staff and national partners, to integrate environment and climate change into all phases of the programme cycle of operations.
