#GreeningEUcooperation: How to perform environmental and climate risk screening

Did you know that every programme or project needs to carry out a preliminary assessment of the potential adverse impacts on the environment or climate risks, better known as Environment and Climate Screening? Don’t worry, the template has been prepared for you and support is available to help you if in doubt.

Based on this assessment, you can determine whether it is necessary to perform a Strategic Environmental Assessment, an Environmental Impact Assessment and/or a Climate Risk Assessment or whether no further assessment is needed.

Always remember, though, that even if no dedicated assessments are formally required you still need to use the ‘green lens’ approach and ensure environmental and climate opportunities are well integrated in your programme. All projects and programmes can play a role in implementing the Green Deal, no matter how big or small.
