Discussion details

The Guyana Forestry Commission and the EU, together with other donors and implementing partners, have discussed the different programmes and projects that are supporting forest-related activities in Guyana on 5 June, Environment Day.

One of the topics is the bilateral agreement for the trade of timber products, the FLEGT Voluntary Partnership Agreement or VPA (FLEGT - Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade). The VPA helps to improve forest governance and sustainable forestry, and to verify the trade in legal timber.

The projects fall within the Forest Partnership between Guyana and the EU. The Forest Partnership will help the Parties reach their joint climate and biodiversity goals, while promoting socio-economic development.

Meetings are also attended by forest stakeholders including private sector, Indigenous Peoples and civil society.
