HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRATISATION IN EU EXTERNAL RELATIONS training at EEAS - Discrimination on the basis of disability
Discussion details
On 13 November 2013 a training onHUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRATISATION IN EU EXTERNAL RELATIONS was held at the External Relations Action Service (EEAS). It was organised by the Human Rights divisions and the Career and Learning development division at EEAS.
The EU is founded on the principles of human rights and democracy. It has a legal and a moral duty to promote these values in its relations with other countries.
Human rights considerations have a major impact on the activities of the European Union, including trade, development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. Human rights problems or failures of democracy can prevent the EU from fulfilling its objectives in third countries. A clear understanding of these issues and of how the EU deals with them is therefore essential for staff in the External Relations family.
The aim of this training course was to help staff to identify and incorporate human rights and democracy concerns in their work.
An entire section was dedicated to: "Discrimination on the basis of disability" and the guest speakers were: Wouter Simonis (EEAS), Annelisa Cotone from DG JUST (European Commission) andLars Bosselmann, from the Christian Blind Mission (CBM).
You can find here the power point presentation delivered by Annelisa Cotone from DG JUST (European Commission).
