Intersectoral Covenant Annual Meeting in Colombia
The project positioning forest governance in Colombia, which is funded by the European Union and is led by CARDER, participated in the Annual Meeting of the Pact for Legal Timber in Colombia (PIMLC), which took place on October 9 in the city of Bogota.
The principal axis of the event focused in the presentationof the progress and results of the implementation of the Pact for Legal Timber in Colombia, with perspectives and action proposals for consolidation and link new actors.
Theactivity was led by Ambassador of the European Delegation in Colombia, Maria Wilhelmina Van Gool, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Juan Gabriel Uribe and the Director of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Risaralda (at the top of the project PGFC), Juan Manuel Villegas Alvarez.
The Minister of Environment said: "in the current Colombian context, where we work to find the right path to peace, sustainable forest development and protection of environmental resources, theenvironment is a fundamental, so it is necessary to protect the illegality, in all fields of activity, from illegal logging, drug trafficking up hiding in the jungles of the country.”
The Director of theCARDER said: "The CARDER is consolidate today as a corporation that is recognized in the country for the hard work done towards the sustainability of environmental resources, not only in the department, but throughout the country. "
In the event agenda touched points as signature and accession of new entities to the dynamics of the covenant, gave a general report of progress PIMLC, contextualization on the state of forestry in jurisdictions where the CAR develops action, among other things.
For your part the ambassador of the European Union was grateful for the efforts of Colombian institutions to preserve the environment, and recognized the importance of the work done since the project PGFC CARDER and as positively contributes to the reduction of illegal forestry and environmental development. It also praised the work done by all the actors involved in the development of the Covenant, recognizing the work of WWF; Fedemaderas, Fundación Natura and the Forestry Direction of the Ministry of Environment.
