Interview with PFD co-chair Jacqueline Moustache-Belle, part 2
Discussion details
Does the PFD support you in understanding and explaining how the EU works to your constituents? If so, how?
Yes, it does. Many times we look at places like the EU and UN and other international organizations as having powerful machinery, as hard to understand, like the IMF or World Bank for example. The PFD has explained how they work and helps us to understand how to develop priorities.
How do you plan to contribute to the PFD and its success?
We plan to strengthen the participation and contributions of local and regional Local Authorities (LAs). We will inform and mobilize LAs in partner countries, try to involve them in dialogue with the EU and other stakeholders. We commit to working in that direction.
In terms of content, local and regional authorities are very keen to strengthen governance perspectives of the Forum. UCLG can provide a broad and rich range of examples of government taking action at local level (climate change adaptation plans, for example). We can identify legal and institutional frameworks that enable certain initiatives to thrive, many of which are replicable internationally.
