Dear all,

The Hangout on Social Protection in Crisis Contexts will now be bi-weekly (please use this link to download the invite into your calendars and whatever time it shows as is when we will meet, including any daylight savings time mix-ups that will soon occur).  The first one is Wednesday 09 March starting at 8 am EST.  The Zoom link to connect is: https://socialprotectionorg.zoom.us/j/83513889581

The Hangout is a place for practitioners to meet and network in an informal setting with no agency hats, light facilitation and an open environment.  It is an open invite, so please do share with your networks.  There are no notes, recordings (or PPTs) and it’s Chatham House rules.

The Hangout has gone through some changes based on feedback (and practicalities) which are:

  • Name change (no longer called the informal hangout).

  • Bi-weekly instead of weekly. It will take place every other Wednesday.

  • No longer co-hosted by Zehra Rizvi and Cecile Cherrier. It is now hosted by the whole Online Community for Social Protection in Crisis Contexts.  We are looking for facilitators and if you are interested, please email us at: social-protection-crisis-contexts-admin@dgroups.org and we can discuss the requirements and assign you dates.

  • Thematic. There used to be no set agenda. There is now one topic that is brought to the table.  On 09 March, it is Ukraine. This does not mean the whole conversation has to be about Ukraine; space will exist for participants to bring up other topics or issues they want to talk about and share/get advice, etc.  In all likelihood, ranting and venting will also continue.  If you have a theme to suggest (or present), please get in touch with us at: social-protection-crisis-contexts-admin@dgroups.org.

  • Supported by the Socialprotection.org platform: the zoom link is now generated from SP.org who continue to support community’s requests such as this (thank you SP.org!).

Things we hope will not change:

  • Supportive and open environment

  • Informality

  • Networking and collaboration (we have often seen that participants have linked up on work and mitigated duplication to some extent)

Hope to see many of you there, and we remain open to feedback and suggestions on how to keep the space useful for you.

Best wishes,
