President von der Leyen launched the Digital4Development Hub. It is a key tool for EU Member States and Delegations to jointly develop the Team Europe approach on digital.

The launch of Digital4Development (D4D) Hub, on December 8 in the presence of Heads of Government of Germany, Belgium, Estonia and Luxembourg, marks a turning point in the EU's international partnership on digital. EU Leaders, Commissioners Urpilainen and Breton and AU Commissioner Abou Zeid intervened. In the ensuing panel, private sector and civil society representatives discussed the future of the EU-AU partnership on digital transformation.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how much our lives depend on digital technologies. With the D4D Hub, Team Europe is building strong ties across the globe to make the digital revolution an opportunity for everyone." - President von der Leyen stated.

D4D Hub?

The D4D Hub gathers key stakeholders from EU Member States, private sector, civil society and financial institutions in a Team Europe spirit.

Its objectives:

  • scaling up investments in the digital transformation of partner countries;
  • promoting a comprehensive values-based rulebook for a digital economy and society worldwide;
  • promote a stronger and more strategic EU engagement in international digital partnerships.

Strong of its success, the event set a milestone for further multi-stakeholder cooperation in the months and years to come. Digitalisation is now broadly recognised as a growing priority for many countries and regions around the world.

The D4D Hub will be a strategic tool for EU Member States and Delegations to develop a meaningful Team Europe approach to digitalisation.
