Launching of the public consultation for the Communication on Social Protection

In accordance with the Commission work plan for 2012, DG DEVCO is preparing a Communication on Social Protection in EU Development Cooperation, to be adopted in 2012.

This communication will reflect and follow up the 2011 Communication 'Increasing the impact of EU Development Policy: an Agenda for Change' and will seek to explain the role of social protection in underpinning inclusive and sustainable development and the role of the European Union in supporting the strengthening of social protection policies and systems.

As part of a broader process of consultation, an on-line Issues Paper and questionnaire has been published in http://ec.europa.eu/europeaid/how/public-consultations/ to collect views and opinions that will help the Commission to formulate the new policy proposal for supporting social protection in its development cooperation with partners countries. The online consultation was launched on the 16th of December 2011 and will remain open until the 24th of February 2012. Contributions from citizens, public authorities and stakeholders in Europe and third countries are welcomed!
