The European "20-20-20" targets are just one facet of Europe's Climate and energy package.

Cities across Europe are aiming for:

  • A 20% reduction in EU greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels;
  • Raising the share of EU energy consumption produced from renewable resources to 20%;
  • A 20% improvement in the EU's energy efficiency.

A great example of efforts carried out can be seen in the French town of Besançon, where the mayor has launched a campaign to get everyone involved. From 30 September 2013 to April 2014, the town is offering special energy briefcase with tools to measure energy and water consumption, loss of thermal heating through walls, as well as humitidy measurements.

Citizens all around town are currently measuring the efiiciency of their own housing to better adapt their behaviours and identify where the housing itself could benefit from increased insulation.

Further information is available on the town's website: http://www.besancon.fr/
