The United States government is backing major expansion of fisheries and aquaculture development projects for remote atolls in the Marshall Islands that local officials say will be a "game changer" for economic advancement in a nation heavily dependent on donor aid. The US Agency for International Development's Pacific American Climate Fund (PACAM) has awarded more than $2.2 million in grants to the Namdrik Atoll Development Association and Aquaculture Technologies of the Marshall Islands to help island communities adapt to the negative impacts of climate change and improve their livelihoods.
