Meeting With SGS Signature

On August 22 Positioning Project representatives of Forest Governance in Colombia (which is funded by the European Union), accompanied by the Director-Colombia FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) José Luis Rengifo, held a meeting with members of the firm SGS, expert in consulting and "inspection, verification, testing and certification of products and services in the agriculture, forestry, consumer, and petrochemical and mineraland industrially.

The meeting's objective was to explore the possibility of establishing SGS technical support for the implementation of a pilot test, which aims to make a diagnosis on the verification system (traceability) of wood in Colombia. And that in turn, throw solutions and recommendations to devices and techniques appropriate to the context of the jurisdictions of the CAR members, and which results in the design of a draft model Assurance System for Forest Legality (SAL) in Colombia. 

During the project activity performed on the subject contextualization of legality in the implementation of the project area, showing the main problems affecting the forest sector were also technical products that are designed in the two years of implementation of the initiative such as Guide of Unified cubage, Control and Monitoring Protocols in Forest, Road and Deposits, Concept of legal timber, Simplified Handling Plans, among others.


At the end of September, another meeting will be brought forward to further progress in the subject. The project hopes to incorporate elements of the discussion in the assembly system to legality assurance forest.
