Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Foreign Ministers endorse 2015 work programme

The Chairlady of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Foreign Minister’s Meeting (FMM), Madam Caroline Machoro-Reignier officially opened the FMM held at the MSG Secretariat in Port Vila, Vanuatu Friday 23 January 2015.The FMM considered the Report of the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) that met here over the past two days. This was present to FMM by the Chair of the SOM, Mr Michael Forrest focusing on the 2015 Work Programme and Budget of the Secretariat. Madam Machoro-Reignier in her opening statement appealed to members to consider the recommendations by the SOM on the 2015 Work Programme and Budget bearing in mind that 2015 is another important year for the MSG when MSG Leaders will meet in Solomon Islands to convene the 20th MSG Leaders’ Summit.
She said the MSG has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1988 with the signing of the Agreed Principles of Cooperation by our Founding Fathers. “This year, when our Leaders have considered and endorsed the Implementation Framework of the ‘MSG 2038 - Prosperity for All’ Plan, it will be time to embark on a new journey for the people of Melanesia to ensure we work towards fulfill the vision of our Leaders, for our Group that embraces “An MSG community that is strong, integrated, enlightened, happy, prosperous, secure and caring,” said Madam Machoro-Reignier.The FMM Chairlady urged the Foreign Ministers to note the MSG Secretariat’s Work Programme and Budget 2015 that is going to focus on the four objectives of the MSG 2038 Prosperity for All Plan. She also appealed for members to support the Secretariat’s resourcing issues as a way of strengthening capacity for the Secretariat and the MSG organization.
