For the attention of all DEAR family members (both serving OR retired)

Fourty years ago, in 1976, a 2.5 MECU fund was set up to co-finance NGO projects in developing countries. As from 1979, a part of this increasing fund (around 10%) was earmarked for development education in Europe.

That is why the European Commission is proud to celebratethe 40th anniversary of its support to NGO projects (development and development education projects).

As regards Development Education (the original acronym was ED meaning Education au Développement replaced by DEAR for Development Education and Awareness Raising), in 1979 the first grants, totalling 200,000 ECU, were awarded to 17 different projects.  Since then, the programme has grown to involve hundreds of organisations, thousands of people and a budget of around €30 million per year.

The European Commission is looking for reflections, memories and stories about the development of its DEAR programme in the past 40 years, including about its achievements – and the people involved.

We will therefore welcome any information and/or material about the first decades of Development Education actions. Please fill the questionnaire or do contact us via e-mail on dearevents@eprd.pl
