On 24-25 February, UNIDO participated in the Working Party on Euro-Mediterranean industrial cooperation. The industrial cooperation under theEuro-Mediterranean partnership aims to create an area of shared prosperity between the EU and Mediterranean partner countries.

At this occasion, numerous entrepreneurs, representatives of business associations and public authorities reviewed the status of 2014-2015 work programme on Euro-Mediterranean industrial cooperation.  Participating countries from the Mediterranean included: Albania, Algeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia and Turkey.

The main points of discussion at the Working Party were focused on:

  • Overview of achievements since the ministerial meeting on 19 February 2014
  • Overall framework for Euro-Mediterranean economic cooperation
  • Proposals for updating the 2014-2015 work programme
  • Presentation of projects in the framework of the EU-Mediterranean cooperation

As the lead agency, UNIDO reported on the implementation of two important Mediterranean regional programmes funded by the European Union:

Creative Industry Clusters

The project is aimed at supporting the development of pilot clusters in the creative and cultural industries in the Southern Mediterranean that have the potential to develop into promising pilot cluster initiatives.

SWITCH-Med

The objective of the SWITCH-Med Programme is to facilitate the shift toward Sustainable Consumption and Production - SCP - in the Southern Mediterranean Region. The programme deals with changing the way goods and services are produced and consumed, so that human development and satisfaction of human needs is decoupled from environmental degradation. It supports industry, emerging green entrepreneurs, civil society and policy makers through policy development, demonstration activities and networking.
