Discussion details

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) released its Strategy for Support to Social Protection on Thurs 1 July. Full and short versions are available at https://www.wfp.org/publications/world-food-programme-strategy-support-….

The strategy contains some features that may be of particular interest to this community of practice, including: (1) Discussion of the use of social protection for disaster risk management as one of WFP's two stated priorities in social protection (2) List of options for what WFP expects to do in its own programming that can contribute to the strengthening of national social protection, which may be relevant for other organisations seeking to identify similar linkages (3) Highlights of special considerations for working in conflict and post-conflict / transitional settings, including the greater emphasis on risk analysis, and the implications of a 'nexus' approach. Building social protection partnerships and evidence globally is also a key part of the strategy.
