As stressed in our project design, family skills activity are part of the integrated psychosocial support we will be providing to vulnerable artisans. These activities are aiming at building familiy self confidence, good relashionship between the family members, care to children, how to promote safe behaviour.....in sum how to build family resilience. Accordingly, we have just finished the development of our family counseling tool/guide which will be utilized by social assistants ans community advisors, during home visits, self help support groups, etc...
I will post on the blog the final guide for sharing.
Estimados Todos:
Saludos, Pedro.
Dear all,
Here a brief update of activities lately implemented of our project aiming to improve protection and livelihoods of children and youth migrant workers:
Best regards,
Diego
UPDATE ON THE YOUTH EMPLOYABILITY IN THE INFORMAL SECTOR PROJECT (YEIS) IMPLEMENTED BY AJPRODHO JIJUKIRWA IN PARTNERSHIP WITH YWCA AND CARE
The first year of the Youth Employability in the Informal Sector Project ended on the 31st of January 2016. The main pre-occupation of the project for the first year was Voluntary Saving and Loan Associations (VSLA) formation, technical assistance and supervision to VSLA groups firmed. The target value for VSLA was 320 VSLAs consisting of 8000 VLSA members. The processes of Voluntary Saving and Loan Associations (VSLA) formation which started in May has been finalized with 323 VSLA groups formed out of 320 VSLA groups planed (101%). A VSLA group is considered formed when it has received the first saving by all group members.
Training in the VSLA methodology for field staff ahead of VSLA group formation was carried out to ensure that they have requisite skills to transfer skills acquired to peer educators. They have also been trained on advocacy skills, Rwanda’s TVET policy and curriculum Framework, gender, and will be trained in financial literacy, financial linkages creation, entrepreneurship, relevant laws and policies and social protection programs in order to prepare them to rollout related project components in year 2, 3, and 4.
Capacity building to field staff, supervisors and peer educators is systematically delivered as Implementation of the VSLA methodology is progressively delivered. A total of 640 peer educators have been trained on the VSLA methodology module out of 640 planned (100%). Trained peer educators progressively transfer knowledge acquired to their VSLA groups after being trained by the project field officers.
Out of 8000 members planned, 8480 members (106%) have been trained in the VSLA methodology. Each VSLA group is constituted of 25-30 members – most VSLA groups have 30 members instead of 25, which explain why the total number of members reached is more than the target value of 8000 members that was calculated using a lower end of the membership expected). The number of VSLA groups which have started savings in the VSLA groups is 307 out of 323 groups formed, while 2976 income generating activities have expanded or new ones started, mainly from VSLA loans taken by members.
Advocacy components of the project were kicked off by adopting an advocacy framework through which government decisions will be informed on conditions of work of youth in the informal sector. The first meeting of the forum took place on the 4th of February 2016 mainly focusing on domestic work conditions and capacity to contract for 16& 17 years old. Key actors from the civil society, public sector, the Private Sector Federation and the national labor union were represented.
Preparatory work on the awareness raising component of the project started in the 4th quarter of the year involving development of awareness raising content/ messages; drawing the radio talk show program line-up on thematic areas of discussion, identification of participants for the radio talk show, identification of prospective radio service providers and the process of contracting a radio service provide for the talk shows that will be selected.
Regards,
Ejid
