The Node Combines Social Inclusion with Environmental Conservation

Today, Europe and the Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPCs) are facing unprecedented risks and share common challenges. Threats of environmental, social and economic nature combine in an explosive mix and tackling them separately has proved to be ineffective and unsustainable.

The Mediterranean Network of Forestry Research and Innovation (MENFRI www.menfri.eu) has worked to promote innovative Mediterranean forest management and conservation through forest use by sharing knowledge between the northern and southern Mediterranean. The Network has successfully expanded and led to the formation of an external group of key actors from different sectors, which joined forces and created an independent service-hub called the Node: Node for Opportunities and Development (www.thenode.co). 

The Node focuses on opportunities, development, and the environment. Its primary goal is to become a game-changing actor, driving innovative tailored sustainable development solutions in the forestry and environmental sectors. The organization uses a multidisciplinary approach combining its technical and policy advisory capacities with market opportunities, knowledge, trainings and social empowerment, seeking to develop and deliver empowering experiences and effective services for an inclusive sense of ownership.

Today, the Node stands ready to support EU, governments, forestry owners and International Organizations to achieve their socio-ecological objectives while promoting social inclusion. It´s official launch is scheduled for November 16^th, 2016 at the EU Parliament in Brussels where a conference will gather representatives of EU Institutions, the UfM, and the United Nations agencies as well as national authorities, members of the academia, the private sector and civil society.
