Discussion details

This week's Story of the week is concerned with the Agriculture and Nutrition Extension Project (ANEP) in Nepal and was prepared by EU Delegation in Nepal. ANEP is increasing the food security and nutritional status of Nepalese communities. Around 70 percent of Nepalese have agriculture-based livelihoods, including many subsistence farmers. As a result of the project, some 21 209 poor households living in Nepal have improved income, food security and nutrition, and average annual household income has increased by € 400 for people taking part in the programme. Vulnerable farming families have increased the number of food secure months from just 4.6 to 11 months. The prevalence of underweight children has decreased from 37.5% to 17% - a very significant drop in a short time. Communities have been linked to government services to sustain and expand the gains made in food security, nutrition and income. The syory is available in 22 European languages.
