Pacific tops list of exporting destination for Fiji
Discussion details
Over the past three years, the Pacific has emerged as the key export destination for Fiji. For example, in 2014 the Pacific region accounted for about 32 per cent of the country's total exports to the world. And this signifies the importance of the Pacific being a key market for Fijian exporters. These were the sentiments of Fiji's Trade commissioner to Papua New Guinea Navitalai Tuivuniwai at the launch of the Pacific Islands Trade Report 2010-2014 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on Wednesday. "We have a readily available export destination right close to our doorstep and Fijian exporters must be encouraged to have a more Pacific-focused strategy and be more competitive in servicing those markets," Mr Tuivuniwai said. While Fiji is very aggressive in promoting and targeting traditional export regions such as Australasia, North America, Asia and Europe, he says, Fiji still has a lot of untapped potential in the region that it needs to capitalise on.
