Discussion details

Dear colleagues,

Please find below the planned social media priorities for this week, now just three weeks ahead of EDD13.

As always, this information is also available in the capacity4dev group for EDD13 social media managers, in which you can share any upcoming content relevant to the EDD13 themes.

Monday, 4 November:

EuropeAid’s new DG, Frutuoso de Melo will be at EDD13:

Fernando Frutuoso de Melo has today taken up his new post as Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Development and Cooperation – EuropeAid, and has confirmed his attendance at EDD13. This will be the main focus today, just as we will announce that the extended registration period for EDD13 closes tomorrow.

Tuesday, 5 November:
UNEP Emissions Gap Report:

UNEP's 4th Emissions Gap Report will be launched in Brussels on Tuesday, just ahead of the next climate change conference COP19 in Warsaw on 11-22 November. The report will be launched by EU Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard, who is also a confirmed speaker at this year’s EDD, where she will take part in the auditorium session, Poverty Eradication and Climate Change: Friends or Foes? (#EDD13_Climate).

Wednesday, 6 November:

Announcement/Environment and Peace EDD13 topics:

Wednesday’s focus will be on a currently embargoed announcement of a high-level meeting relevant to EDD.

Wednesday is also International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, and could as such be an occasion to mention the environment and peace topics at EDD13, such as the auditorium session organised by Saferworld, Cordaid, Friends of Europe and Platforma, Post-2015: Objective Peace.

Thursday, 7 November:

Announcement of Oxfam’s Executive Director, Winnie Byanyima EDD13 attendance:

Thursday’s focus will be on Oxfam International's Executive Director, Winnie Byanyima’s attendance at EDD13. Ms. Byanyima’s inaugural appearance at EDD will see her join other eminent thought-leaders and decision-makers for the closing panel A New Development Agenda: The Way Forward, just as she will take part in the lab session on the same day, Effective Development in a Changing World: The Role of Business.

Friday, 8 November:

Video contest winners announcement:

On Friday we expect to announce the winners of our video contest for young people, Young Voices Against Poverty. The contest turned out to be a big success, which brought us more than 100 creative solutions for how to fight poverty from around 50 countries around the world. Thank you for all your efforts to spread the word about this contest and with helping us get young people involved in the issue of poverty eradication.

Again, thank you for all of your promotional efforts up until now and as always, please contact me with any questions, comments or suggestions you may have.

Best regards,

Elisabeth
