Emissions Gap for 2030 Last Call for Climate Action

 

On 29 October, just a few days before the Climate COP26 negotiations begun in Glasgow, UNEP presented the findings of the latest Emissions Gap Report to European Commission officials. 



Veronika Hunt Safrankova, Head of UNEP Brussels Office, together with Niklas Hagelberg, Climate Change Subprogramme Coordinator UNEP and Elina Bardram, Head of International Relations unit at DG CLIMA, European Commmission.  

The authors subsequently presented the key findings of the 2021 Emissions Gap report: 

- Takeshi Kuramochi (NewClimate Institute) - Chapter 2: Trends in global emissions, new pledges for 2030 and G20 status and outlook 

- Michel den Elzen, PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency) on Chapter 2 and Chapter 4: The emissions gap 

Anne Olhoff, Chief scientific editor of the report, (UNEP DTU Partnership) on Net-zero emissions targets 

Jean-Paul Adam, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa [UNECA] on Chapter 5: Chapter 5 Are COVID-19 fiscal recovery measures bridging or extending the emissions gap? 

Marielle Saunois, Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin [UVSQ], Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement [LSCE]) on Chapter 6: The role of anthropogenic methane emissions in bridging the emissions gap
