In October 2014, the GIZ Sector Programme on ‘Technology Cooperation in the Energy Sector’ released the first five issues of the vRE Discussion Series.
This newly established publication series will specifically focus on the technical and economic optimal integration of variable renewable energies (vRE) in power markets of developing and transition countries. So far, most national vRE programmes have not aimed at achieving an economically optimal pathway for national wind and photovoltaic (PV) development over time. Naturally, this has led to suboptimal national renewable energy (RE) deployment, resulting in unnecessary losses of government budgets and credibility and/or excessive private sector profits and/or massive insolvency waves after subsidy-driven vRE bubbles.
The first five issues can be downloaded via Energypedia.
The ‘vRE Discussion Series’ will continuously present emerging results and issues of special interest to GIZ partners along the four main fields of our work: vRE policy, economics, finance, and technology issues. As the series’ title indicates, the reports presented are often based on ongoing work, and so we welcome suggestions and ideas via email that can be sent to either Klas Heising or Frank Seidel.
