Ratificationof the Agreement for Legal Timber in the Department of Risaralda

The day today was the ratification of the Regional Agreement for legal timber in the department of Risaralda, organized by the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Risaralda and Project Positioning of forest governance in Colombia (which is funded by the European Union and led by the CARDER).

The event was Presided by the Director General of the CARDER: Dr. Juan Manuel Alvarez Villegas, who said in his speech the importance of forest management as a mechanism to ensure the sustainability of the forests of the region and highlighted the good name in the country with the Corporation and the Risaralda department, thanks to the work done on the conservation of natural resources.

Also,the event was attended by different political leaders of Risaralda, headed by the Secretary of Government Department (who attended the event as acting governor): Dr Andres Echeverry Arango and various associations and private companies related to forestry, 

Regional agreementsare a strategy that is derived from the Pact for Legal Timber in Colombia, which was ratified by President Juan Manuel Santos last August 31, 2011 and whose overall objective: "to ensure that the wood harvested, transported , processed, marketed and used in the country comes only from legal sources. "Also, are the joint goal of efforts between the private sector, government agencies and civil society, seeking to ensure sustainable forest management and conservation to future.
