Objectives of the course
The overall objective of this series of webinars on “European Green Deal - Greening EU cooperation” is to enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of the European Green Deal and its implications for EU cooperation; and strengthen the capacity of the participants in “Greening EU cooperation” through integrating environment and climate change-related themes into all sectors and all instruments of EU development cooperation.
The specific objectives of this Forest-based value chains and wood webinar are for participants to: Enhance their understanding of the nature and importance of forest-based value chains in partner countries, with a specific focus on wood value chains;
- Discuss the opportunities and challenges linked the development and market of these value chains;
- Analyse options for EU support aiming at ensuring that forest-based value chains deliver the desired products and impact (job, income, resilience) while enhancing biodiversity and preserving the socio-cultural value of forests;
- Be acquainted with some innovative cases and tools – exchange on good practices.
Content
The webinar will cover:
- Introduction to Forest-based value chains with a focus on wood: nature and characteristics, global consumption and demand, national and regional markets;
- Opportunities and Challenges linked the development of these value chains;
- Key EU Frameworks addressing forest-based value chains and wood value chain;
- EU Support aimed at promoting sustainable wood value chains and mobilising innovative finance (including EFSD+). The section will focus on possible actions at national and regional level;
- Actions, Case Studies and Best Practices relating to the sustainable production and consumption of wood products.
Target audience
Open to all EU staff working in EU Delegations or Headquarters. In particular those dealing with cooperation areas related to forests, biodiversity and ecosystems, climate change, water, sustainable food systems, energy, sustainable growth and jobs, resilience, local communities.
