As smart phone use grows rapidly, even among the poor and in the most remote areas, new uses to improve access to micro-finance are identified!

While many may argue that the poor are not using smart phones, the evidence shows that mobile and even smart phone use is growing rapidy. In 2013, a median of 45% across 21 emerging and developing countries reported using the internet at least occasionally or owning a smartphone. In 2015, that figure rose to 54% (see details on these statistics here).
